Making salt dough is really easy and great fun!
A mug
Mixing bowl
Wooden spoon
Plain flour
Salt
Water
Vegetable oil
Food colouring/food essences
Glitter
Poster paint
Paint brushes
Measure two mugs full of flour and one mug full of salt and put them in your mixing bowl.
Fill the mug 3/4 full of water and add this to the mixture.
Add a tablespoon of vegetable oil.
Stir the mixture with your spoon or with your hands until it forms dough. If your dough is too crumbly, add a bit more water. If it is too sticky, add a bit more flour.
Knead the dough to make it smooth and elastic.
You can add food colouring, essences or glitter to your dough to make it colourful – try making doughs of different colours.
If you keep the dough in a tied polythene bag, it won’t dry out.
Now the fun bit – mould the dough with your hands or roll it our flat and cut out shapes using a cookie cutter or make your own models.
Leave your dough to dry on a flat surface for about 2 days until they are hard.
When they are dry, you can decorate your salt dough shapes using poster paint.
