Take a look at the beautiful watercolours of Dyffryn Gardens in Wales, painted by Edith Adie in the early 1920s. Plus, discover how these artworks helped to inspire the restoration of this beautiful Edwardian garden.

In this talk, archeologist Dr Sadie Watson will explore the environmental landscape of Londinium and find out what plants grew in a Roman garden and their historic, cultural or medicinal significance.

Join our Rare Books Librarian as we explore the world of Jane Louden. From a pioneer of science fiction (with her book The Mummy!) to a prominent voice within horticulture, writing an array of books aiming to empower women to try their hand at gardening.

In this special workshop we will be taking a tour of gardening through time as told by the collections of the RHS Lindley Library, from the 17th century through to the 20th century.

Collections material will include the influential writings of Thomas Fairchild (, 1722) and the beautiful chromolithographs of  (The Gardens of England, 1856-7).

A unique opportunity to view excerpts of archive film footage from the past 60 years showing RHS Garden Wisley and its visitors in earlier decades, the madcap antics of Wisley students in the 60s, and a ‘spoof’ Whicker’s-World-style film marking the retirement of a long-serving staff member in 2003.

Join one of our librarians to explore the fascinating history of how daffodils found their way into our gardens – a flower that has become synonymous with the British countryside and culture.

Through early photographs and guides, see how RHS Garden Harlow Carr was developed as a haven for visitors to use health-giving waters in the 1840s, to a trials garden under the stewardship of the Northern Horticultural Society from the 1940s to early 2000s and today, as the most northerly of all the RHS Gardens.

Join us at RHS Harlow Carr Library for a free 20-minute talk exploring a selection of objects from our library collection. Taking five everyday objects as starting points, we’ll use these items to discover wider horticultural and social histories.

Meet John Gerard, Nicholas Culpeper and William Salmon and discover their world of plants, potions and potatoes. We’ll also have some of our publications on display, so come along and immerse yourselves in all things herbal.
