Work of Heart Garden in support of Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice

Show Features
Gloucester widow Clare Young created this full-size knitted Show Garden installation in memory of her husband Ken. Through this, the world’s first knitted Show Garden, Clare is hoping to raise £50,000 for Sue Ryder – the hospice charity that helped care for Ken and aided Clare’s own battle with anxiety and depression since his death.

Clare said, “After Ken died, I was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety, and my clinical psychologist suggested knitting as a way to help my symptoms.â€

Clare’s 4 x 4m (13 x 13ft) garden features a hospice bedroom overgrown with knitted plants such as lavender and rosemary, known for their healing properties. Included are 10,000 ‘works of heart’ – small hand-knitted or crocheted hearts – created by local knitters, community groups and celebrities.
